The Humanities in Dialogue is a joint series of events from the Union of Academies and the Max Weber Foundation – German Humanities Institutes Abroad. The goal of the discussion forum is to encourage exchange between the specialist fields of the humanities and other research areas. The events provide for active involvement from participants and intensify the dialogue with the public.

The Humanities in Dialogue occurs several times throughout the year in many locations across the nation. At these events, researchers and experts of various disciplines present and discuss questions concerning science, culture, politics and community. Additionally, they engage with the public in Q&A formats. Following each event there is opportunity for further exchange of ideas, follow-up questions and discussions.

The Humanities in Dialogue was initiated in 1993 by the Union of Academies. From 2001 until 2012 the Leibniz Association participated in the forum as a project partner. Since then, the series has been organised jointly by the Union of Academies and the Max Weber Foundation, and since January 2016, the Max Weber Foundation has been the leading organiser.

The Minister of Education and Research is the patron of the Humanities in Dialogue series.
