| In October 1999 the 4th symposium of the German academies of sciences and humanities took place at Stuttgart. It was organised by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The two-day interdisciplinary expert conference, which included speakers and participants from the economy, science and politics, dealt with a problem of our society which is at the cutting edge of discussion. Thus, there were papers and discussions on "Climate Change", "'Sustainable' Energy Use", "Renewable Energy Sources" and "'Sustainable' Mobility". With contributions by: Christian P.
