Transgressing political and disciplinary boundaries and cooperating closely with
researchers abroad has been a trademark feature of the German academies
of sciences and humanities from the beginning. And it has remained so to this
day. The Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities assembles
more than 1.900 scientists and academics who are outstanding representatives
of their disciplines, both nationally and internationally. They have
numerous international contacts, and carry out their research in a network of
cross-border research projects and a busy exchange of scholars and ideas. As
an umbrella organisation, it is one of the responsibilities of the Union of the
German Academies of Sciences and Humanities to act on behalf of its member
academies at home and abroad. The Union is a member of the international
bodies and research organisations listed below.
