The Council for Technical Sciences was founded by the Union in 2002. Its founding members are the seven academies of sciences and humanities that are members of the Union. In the meantime, almost 200 engineering science professionals and representatives of neighbouring subjects in the natural sciences have joined the Council, who is committed to encouraging future-oriented initiatives and to emphasizing the significance of technology for society and the economy. The Council also regards itself as a link between basic research in technical science and applied research. The Council for Technical Sciences is a registered non-profit association with an office in Munich.
